What is Aerogel?
Aerogels are a class of synthetic porous ultralight materials derived from a gel, in which the liquid component has been replaced with a gas. The result is a solid with extremely low density and extremely low thermal conductivity.
Originally developed by NASA and CNSA (China National Space) for space projects, the technology is now available for commercial building applications as thermal insulation blankets.
